Disabled Accessible Transport- The Blue Bus
Following
on from the success of the Honiton Blue Bus, TRIP has spent
15 months fundraising towards having another identical vehicle
to offer the same service to people living in the Seaton area.
This vehicle is now on the road and starting to be used by
local groups.
Local,
as well as national, funders have helped make this happen
and TRIP would especially like to thank the Rotary Club of
Seaton for their very generous support that allowed us to
reach our target.
The vehicle
is available for hire, either with or without a driver at
a very low rate. It currently costs £4.50 per hour without
driver and £11.00 with driver, both costs are plus 30
pence per mile. Drivers do not need a special licence to drive
it and full training is given in how to operate the taillift
and secure a wheelchair and passenger safely. In its planned
layout the vehicle will be able to transport up to 8 walking
people and 1 wheelchair user or 2 wheelchairs and 5 people.
The vehicle
will provide transport for elderly, frail and disabled people
who cannot easily use a car or for wheelchair users. It can
take people to daycare, medical appointments (including Doctors,
Dentist, Chiropody and Opticians as well as being available
to take people out for social occasions and shopping. It will
also be available to transport groups so that wheelchair users
are not excluded from attending functions.
