Our Story

TRIP has a long history of helping our local communities in any way we can. Adapting to the needs of the community is at the heart of what we do.

Established in 1997

The project started originally when the East Devon Community Mental Health Team found their clients were having difficulty arranging transport to and from sessions. They raised the problem with the Honiton Health and Care Team and this in turn led to a six month research project, started in November 1995, in to transport problems in East Devon. The project was overseen by a steering group formed between Devon County Council, East Devon Health and Care Teams, Health Services, and Social Services for East Devon. The aim of the project was to investigate the actual transport needs of people living in rural East Devon and ascertain the availability of all local transport services.

Following the research a proposal was put forward to implement a Transport Co-ordination Unit in Honiton. A working group of representatives from the community was set up to implement the project, and this led to the forming of a Management Committee and the opening of an office in Kings Court, Honiton. The inaugural Annual General Meeting was held in July 1997 and TRIP CTA was officially launched by Angela Browning MP on 3rd November 1997.

Always Growing

Over the last few years TRIP has expanded into many other areas. From Befriending to making Christmas dinners – we are where the community needs us.
